More tickets released for this month’s Gloucester Zip Wire

Due to popular demand, an additional 150 tickets have been secured for the Gloucester Zip Wire taking place on Friday 29 June to Sunday 1 July. With the majority of initial tickets selling out for peak time slots over the weekend, Gloucester Business Improvement District (Gloucester BID) have been in negotiations with the Zip Wire operators to maximise the opportunities for local thrill seekers to take part in this once in a lifetime experience. The Zip Wire will be one of the largest temporary rides of its kind seen in a UK city centre and is part of Gloucester BID’s efforts to support local businesses.

In a slight change in the route, the ZIP wire which will run from St John‘s Church on Northgate Street, over the Cross and along Southgate Street to the Gloucester Tourist Information Centre. The ride promises real excitement for adrenaline junkies, thrill seekers and for those wanting a different view of the beautiful historic city. It is estimated that riders will reach speeds of about 40 mph, soaring above the roof tops at heights of over 140 feet above the ground.

Organisers have been told that Gloucester will be only the third city in the country to host this event after London and Liverpool, where it has been a huge success and are expecting that there will also be a lot of demand from people looking to do the ride as part of a fundraising for their favourite charity.

The Zip wire will be in Gloucester city centre for only three days, from 29thJune until 1stJuly and there is a strictly limited number of people who will be able to take part, so organisers are encouraging anyone who is interested to book immediately.

Nick Brookes. Chairman of Gloucester BID. commented “When we surveyed businesses in the BID area, one of the important things they wanted more of was events that would deliver visitors to Gloucester and would raise the profile of the city.  Undoubtedly this giant zip wire is going to do both these things and will prove to be a really fantastic attraction for visitors and locals.”

Although there is no intention to make a profit from the zip wire, organisers estimate that the income from tickets and sponsorship will cover the cost of bringing the zip wire to Gloucester.
