Jump aboard the Gloucester tall ships event at the historic Gloucester Docks for a day full of pirates, visiting boats and stories from sea. Attractions such as live music, free arts and crafts and on water activities will commence. This is a fun and lively family event to be enjoyed by all. This event has won many awards for its fantastic offerings including Inland waterways award, Cotswold tourism award, Event of the year (silver) and Best festival and tourism award (runner-up, canal river trust-living waterways).
SoMAC is a two-month long summer festival filled with various exciting events combining music, arts and culture. This includes WSP Art in the City, Carnival, Gloucester Fireworks, King’s Jam and Pro Gloucester Goes Retro.
WSP Art in the city
Art in the city will showcase work by various artists who have been influenced by the local culture, history and heritage of Gloucester City. The event will take place in July and will involve plenty of free exhibitions, workshops, arts & crafts markets and competitions with something for all ages!
On Saturday 27th July a parade of lively floats and entertainment will flood the city, filling Gloucester with a vibrant day of music, shows and displays to enjoy. The carnival will make its way through the city centre, concluding in Gloucester Park.
The Fireworks Spectacular
The Fireworks Spectacular is an annual free-entry family event which is held in Gloucester Park. The event embraces a dazzling atmosphere with food and drinks stalls to keep the crowd refreshed. Produced by the creators of the London 2012 Olympic Firework Display, it is assured to be an incredible show of colour.
Taking place in King’s Square, during August, King’s Jam is a festival full of incredible music celebrating hip-hop, afrobeat and RnB. The event will also comprise of an assortment of workshops and conferences directed by industry professionals, to give advice to the next generation of aspiring artists. Some of the previous artists who have performed include AJ Tracey, Lotto Boyzz, Belly Squad and Terri Walker.
Gloucester Goes Retro
Go back in time at Gloucester goes retro! The four main gate streets will be lined full of classic cars and historic vehicles commemorating eras past including food, music, fashion and businesses. Live bands, singers and a dance arena will fill Kings Square, whilst King’s Walk will acknowledge the industrial past of Gloucester, exhibiting past employees from famous local manufacturers.
Gloucester History Festival
Gloucester celebrates over 2,000 years of history with this annual festival every September. Incorporating Gloucester Day parades, History Talks, re-enactments, the festival also features the third largest Heritage Open Days event in the UK.
Gloucester Rhythm & Blues Festival
This annual free music festival takes place across nine days in July and August. A mainstay of the summer season, it attracts artists and festival-goers locally, regionally and nationally.
Christmas Lantern Procession
A display of giant lanterns designed by schoolchildren, in collaboration with local artists lights up Gloucester in November. This warming and colourful event marks the beginning of the Christmas period. Making its way through the city centre, with a final ceremony at Gloucester Cathedral and a carol service lead by the choir it is the finest way to begin the festive season.
A weekend dedicated to the residents of Gloucester for being great ambassadors for the city. This weekend event gives locals the opportunity to explore, experience and enjoy Gloucester. There will be lots of special offers on and an opportunity to upgrade the shopping and dining experience with the new GL Card which is free to join.
